Drink the future! The Coastal Garden is now available to sip on, with oyster leaf-infused Tanqueray No.10 Gin, Seedlip Garden and shiso vermouth.
Not only is this spirit-forward drink herbal and deliciously aromatic, it was also inspired by one of our innovative sustainability projects here at Eaton HK.
The container for this unique-looking cocktail is the product of a groundbreaking upcycling program, offering a new use for discarded oyster shells by turning them into our city’s preferred building material: CEMENT
The shells of oysters served at our buffet restaurant, The Astor, have been transformed into alternative raw material for more sustainable cement production. This unique cross-sector program is the first of its kind in Hong Kong and aims to eventually mitigate the environmental impacts of transporting limestone from overseas. The oyster shells are utilized to create a limestone alternative, a key ingredient that constitutes 80% of cement.
The program is a collaboration with Hong Kong’s leading cement manufacturer, Green Island Cement, and has successfully upcycled over nine tonnes of oyster shells from Eaton HK and our sister hotel, The Langham, Hong Kong since the program’s inception.
